Which jobs have a future — and which certificates get you there

A free educational portal from MDC Continuing Education. Clear answers on careers, pay ranges, and short credentials for adults who already work in Miami-Dade.

How we talk about “best careers”

This is not a course catalog and it is not a sales page. It is a labor-market explainer from the School of Continuing Education and Professional Development at Miami Dade College. When we call a career worth a closer look, we mean four things at once: employers are hiring, the pay range is published by a named source, a short certificate or license is the usual door in (not a bachelor’s degree), and a working adult can start without quitting a job first. We do not invent salary numbers. When a figure appears here, it will cite the source and the year — typically the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Florida or Miami-Dade wage data. If the source is missing, the number does not go live.

Three tracks we will cover first

**Health and care.** Roles such as nursing assistant, billing and coding, and electronic health records. The story is patient-facing or clinic-admin work, typical pay bands, and the certificate that employers recognize. **Tech and data.** IT support, cloud fundamentals, and practical AI-adjacent skills. The story is what the job actually is, what it pays, and which industry cert is the usual first step. **Skilled trades.** HVAC, commercial driving, fiber and construction credentials. The story is hourly pay, the license or ticket that lets you work, and how long the prep usually takes. Full career pages with sourced wages are next. This home orients you first so you are not dropped into a 300-program list.

A short quiz is coming — not a form

The next useful tool on this page is a two-minute quiz about your goals: stay, switch, or level up; pay vs. stability; hours you can study; English or Spanish; the track that pulls you. The result will be recommended reading, not an email gate and not an application. Until that quiz exists, use the three tracks above to start.
